Dear Participants,
We are gathered in Jerusalem to think together about ‘Tomorrow’. We wish for
a better tomorrow for Israel, the Jewish people and the world. We think about
tomorrow not passively - but with imagination, vision, and in no small measure -
chutzpah. We are in need of this kind of presumptuous and non-conformist
thinking, the kind that seeks to shape the future.

Across the millennia, the exhortations of the prophets of Israel have echoed in
our hearts. The prophets envisioned a future of humane peace and social justice.
Through their fervent faith, they encouraged us to shape a better tomorrow. The
prophets have instilled in us - and the whole world - great inspiration, and taught
us to rise up against evil and to never accept wrongdoing. They have also given
the Jewish people an impatient temperament, a disinclination to rest on its laurels
or settle for what is. They have given us the drive to change and strive for a better,
more just future.

The history of the Jewish people oscillates between acceptance and rebellion -
between the tragedy of a helpless people at the mercy of a cruel fate and the
resurgence of that same people to take control of its fate and shape for itself the
tomorrow it once only dreamt about.

The establishment of the State of Israel after two millennia of exile is a remarkable
expression of the weaving of history by humans. This chutzpah - of the refusal to
accept things as they are - has its roots to the early dawn of the Jewish people.
More than three thousand years passed between the time of Moses and that of
Herzl, but in those two gigantic crossroads on the path of the Jewish journey
through history we find the same people - a people that has taken control of its
fate to emerge from slavery to freedom, and shape its national vision and human
mission.

These enormous turns of history are made by humans. They teach us the
extent to which all things are foreseen; yet the choice is given. Tomorrow does
not await us locked and pre-determined. Tomorrow calls upon us to shape it.
It presents us with empty pages and invites us to write on them the histories of
tomorrow.

The future awaits our decisions, our inventions, our dreams and our imagination.
Facing Tomorrow will look closely at the trends and developments that are mapping
the future, and serve as an incubator for some selected proactive responses.
Participants will be charged with examining, confronting, and responding to three
intertwining futures: the global tomorrow, the Jewish tomorrow, and the Israeli
tomorrow.

Each “tomorrow” - Jewish, Israeli, and world - will be examined through a set of
three critical lenses: The leadership necessary to navigate the challenges ahead,
the values that are meant to guide our journey, and the creativity required to
embrace the new and keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
We wish for a conference that not only ‘talks’ but also drives action. We seek to
encourage practical initiatives intended to positively shape our future.

In honor of the Conference, gathered in Jerusalem is a unique group of people:
leaders who hail from a wide variety of fields and courses: policy, science,
economics, culture, art, religion and thought. These leaders are unlike each other
but they share a common trait - they are determined to shape tomorrow. They are
not content to settle for things as they are. They possess the courage to create
the new.

If the role of historians is to explain how yesterday was shaped, our challenge is
to show the path to shaping tomorrow.
We must extend our understanding of the trends that will influence the face of
tomorrow. We must be humble but courageous: Humble - to accept that not all
trends can be shaped and changed and that sometimes our only choice is to be
well-prepared; Courageous - to insist that where change is possible, we should
act, steer, innovate and make the difference between what could be to what
should be.

In all my years, I have been party to many dreams. The ones that became
reality had one thing in common: they were all blessed with the proper mix of
imagination, will, and compassion. I am quite sure that all three of these very
human qualities will be abundantly evident at this conference, and will afford it
the intellectual fertility, curiosity, and enthusiasm any meaningful consideration of
tomorrow requires.

task I felt privileged to perform: to lead a team of wonderful people dedicated to

The conference is multifaceted and thus represents the myriad challenges facing
Israel, the Jewish people and the world in general on the exciting path towards

including many young people. One of the primary aims of the conference, and

My years as Government Secretary have brought me into the fold of some of the
most consequential issues facing Israel and the Jewish people. I have learned

to this responsibility and will contribute to the prosperity of the State of Israel and
the Jewish people as part of the world community.

TOMORROW IN
MASTER CLASS
Some of the guests at the conference will take
part in special "master class" sessions with
young Israelis. This program is part of a broad
effort by the Jewish People Policy Planning
Institute to foster young leadership and promote
discourse on fundamental issues among
Israel's and the Jewish people's future generation.
These sessions will be attended by outstanding
college and university students from
around Israel, as well as young leaders from
the economic, defense and social sectors. The
program is inspired by the master class model
in music teaching, where expert musicians tutor
talented young students.
MASA An innovative initiative of the Jewish Agency
and the Government of Israel. MASA organizes
long-term stay programs in Israel for thousands
of young Jewish adults from the Diaspora in
order to strengthen their Jewish identity and
their bond with Israel. The program relies on
studies, that reflect the tremendous impact a
significant period of time in Israel can have on
a young person’s connection to Jewish identity,
community and heritage. MASA aims to make
the stay in Israel a transformative experience
for at least one in five young Jewish adults. The
return on our investment in these young people
today - an engaged and inspired leadership
with the commitment to lead our people into
the future.
SPECIAL PROJECTS WILL BE
SHOWCASED THROUGHOUT
THE CONFERENCE
The discovery of the Judean Desert scrolls,
commonly known as the Dead Sea scrolls, is the
most important archaeological discovery of the
twentieth century. The expression “The People
of the Book” has received further support with
the Scrolls’ discovery and publication. The
Dead Sea Scrolls opens a window upon one of
the important chapters in the history of the two
religions, modern Judaism and Christianity.
A unique and impressive volume of the Dead
Sea Scrolls will be on display throughout the
conference. This segment of the scrolls is taken
from the book of Psalms and includes the name
of God in ancient Hebrew writing.

TAGLIT Taglit-Birthright Israel is a successful and
innovative project in the Jewish world, drawing
tens of thousands of Jewish students (180,000
from 53 countries so far) to their first educational
tour of Israel. The project is meant to strengthen
these young adults’ Jewish identity, create
a network of support for the State of Israel
and reinvigorate Jewish communities in the
Diaspora. The program has been able to bring
about real change in the attitude of the younger
generation of Diaspora Jews towards Israel and
has increased the number of students visiting
Israel by 2500%.

HATEFUTSOTH
Beth Hatefutsoth is a unique, modern and
world-acclaimed cultural institution. The
museum's exhibitions and outstanding archival
resources present the story of the Jewish
people through the ages and around the world,
providing contemporary generations with the
key to their own cultural identity and a deeper
bond with their people.

extensive interaction with focus groups
made up of leading figures in the
fields of planning, philosophy and the
arts, as well as professionals, Israeli
government officials, leaders of Jewish
organizations and the philanthropists
who support them.
These sessions took place during
2005-6 at Wye Plantation, Maryland,
U.S.A. as well as at the Jewish People
Policy Planning Institute in Jerusalem.
In 2007, 120 of the participants in the
process gathered for a joint conference
in Jerusalem under the title: “The Future
of the Jewish People”, where detailed
discussion took place on various
geopolitical issues pertaining to the
Jewish people, issues of identity and
identification, community life and future
leadership. The summary of this event
is included in the special publication
provided to President’s Conference
participants by the Institute.
On the preliminary day, the day
preceding the official opening of the
President’s Conference 2008: Facing
Tomorrow, the Jewish People Policy
Planning Institute is organizing closed
working group sessions, part of a
continuing process. The purpose of
these deliberations is to discuss select
issues, which have a bearing on the
future of the Jewish people, and to
weigh concrete courses of action. The
findings and recommendations of this
day will serve as important input to
the discourse at the conference itself
and will be brought to the attention of
relevant decision-makers.
The sessions are part of an ongoing
brainstorming process aimed at
developing a comprehensive analysis
of the state of the Jewish people today,
and at formulating ideas for specific
policy alternatives to ensure its well
being and prosperity in generations
to come. This process included

The history of the world is intertwined
with the achievements of Jewish
philosophers, visionaries, scientists and
inventors whose ingenuity transformed
the lives of nations and people.
These men and women have left their
mark on every aspect of life: social
thinking, culture, philosophy, religion,
science, medicine, industry, technology.
Despite these varied realms of
achievement, all these people shared a
common goal: they all sought a better,
more just and more advanced future
for all mankind.
This proud list of Jewish accomplishment
has been reinforced with the
establishment of the State of Israel.
Since that day, hundreds of internationally
acclaimed inventions and innovations
were made here and went
on to make a decisive contribution in
the fields of science, agriculture, medicine
and technology - from the cherry
tomato to ICQ’s instant messaging,
from Netafim’s drip irrigation to Teva’s
groundbreaking medication.
In its 60th years of existence, a small
country, bereft of any substantial
natural resources and under permanent
existential threat, has turned into a
giant of innovation and research that
contribute to a better future worldwide.
There is no equivalent to this ratio
between population size and the
impact of ideas here conceived. There
is no other nation of comparative size
that has been such a font of creative
contribution to the world.

TOMORROW’S
SPACES
The desire for a better future and
solutions to the problems of tomorrow
in Israel, the Jewish world and beyond
is one all conference participants must
share. This desire also permeates
the tens of thousands of Israeli
entrepreneurs, inventors, researchers,
scientists and industrialists who stand
at the forefront of Israeli innovation.
They are the secret of Israel’s success
and endurance and the reason Israel
is so dear to the entire world, as the
cradle of a better future.
The Tomorrow’s Spaces Exhibition
will provide international exposure to
projects now taking shape around the
country, which could become the new
ideas, products and technologies that
shape the face of tomorrow.
The panel of judges has selected 60
projects out of the hundreds it reviewed.
The choice was not easy. The panel
looked at many brilliant and novel ideas
developed by tireless entrepreneurs
seeking to resolve the world’s problems
with that rare combination of both
effective and practical solutions.
These projects were selected based
on the following criteria: the extent
of Israeli ideas, developments and
technologies involved; innovation;
originality; practicability and the impact
the project is expected to make in its
respective field and beyond.
The projects on display provide a
glimpse of contemporary “Jewish
genius” and Israeli resourcefulness in a
wide variety of interests, among them:
biotechnology and medical equipment,
Cleantech, water and agriculture,
high-tech, transportation, computers
and communications. In addition, the
exhibition includes social projects
which contribute to shaping a viable,
pluralistic and more welcoming Israeli
society.

Israel21C's which describes her mission as delivering news to the global public which transcends the pervasive imagery of conflict that characterizes so much of western media reporting.

"Our goal is to strengthen the vibrant and enduring partnership between the United States and Israel, and between Americans and Israelis," says Israel21C Executive Vice President Larry Weinberg.

The Israel 60th birthday video is entitled: The Faces and Places of Israel in the 21st Century.

The video is compilation of the many diverse faces and places in Israel. Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world. In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the second largest number of startup companies after the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the US, over 70 in Japan, and fewer than 60 in Germany. With over 25 percent of its work force employed in technical professions, Israel places first in this category as well. A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the ClearLight device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct - all without damaging surroundings skin or tissue.

An Israel company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant (in southern California's Mojave desert).

Jerusalem ----- May 7, 2008 ....... As sunset falls on Israel, thousands of ordinary people gather in every city and town. They come to attend solemn ceremonies for Yom Hazikaron, the day to remember and pay respect for those who gave their lives to defend Israel.

The names of over 22,400 soldiers and terror victims are called out and their photographs are displayed on large screens. Brave IDF soldiers who fought in every war since 1948, police who were killed protecting the civilian population, members of the Shabak and Mossad are honored.

Remembrance Day for the Fallen of Israel's Wars is commemorated a week after Holocaust Remembrance Day, as a day of remembrance for those who fell in the struggle for the establishment of the State of Israel and in its defense.

The Israel News Agency filmed a video this morning to illustrate what it felt and sounded like before, during and after the two minute air raid siren sounded for Remembrance Day in a town in central Israel.

At 8 p.m. and then again at 11 a.m. the following morning, loud, wailing air raid sirens are heard throughout Israel for two minutes. People and cars freeze in their places. Silence is observed as everyone stands and bows their heads in respect. For 24 hours all places of entertainment are closed and television programming is dedicated to those who have and continue to defend Israel.

All of Israel has the opportunity to remember its debt and express its eternal gratitude to its sons and daughters who gave their lives for the achievement of the country's independence and its continued existence.

"The siren sounded across the country and the clock of life in Israel stopped for one minute," said Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at the opening of his speech at the Remembrance Day ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Israel.

"Israel Remembrance Day is a sad day but bereft of all strife and very Israeli," Olmert said. "Anyone who identifies with the flag, even if he is on the other end of the planet will identify with this day. No one in Israel is estranged from the impact of loss."

"Only you, the families, take part in the world of the loved ones who are gone," Olmert said. "Dear families, I cannot console you with words, for they do not offer relief for the sorrow."

"Our entire national existence depends on our willingness and ability to defend ourselves, to battle the enemy. Your sons and daughters gave their lives for a supreme cause," the Prime Minister said.

"Peace and not war is our ends and the thing we long for."

The idea could only have started with Israel President Shimon Peres, the man who has witnessed up close and person more historic events during Israel's first six decades of statehood than arguably any other person alive today, going back to 1948 when he was one of founding Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion closest, and youngest advisers.

Peres decided last year that it was not enough to review the Jewish state's achievements, challenges and milestones reflectively. Rather, the emphasis for Israel must be on looking forward. Thus was conceived the first annual Israel Presidential Conference, a three-day unparalleled assembly of some of the world's "best and brightest," including equally large representations of Presidents and Prime Ministers, current and past, and Nobel Laureates, to name but two special categories that will be fully represented at the gathering in Jerusalem, Israel from May 13 to May 15.

Thus was the flagship international event commemorating Israel's 60th Anniversary celebrations was born, with Israel President Shimon Peres hosting his premiere “Facing Tomorrow” Conference which will welcome many international leaders to Jerusalem including President George Bush. The Conference was initiated personally by Israel President Peres to address the three main “tomorrows:" the Israel tomorrow, the global tomorrow and the Jewish tomorrow.

In attendance, in addition to many national presidents and heads of state will be dignitaries from the worlds of business and academia. Among them are Sergey Brin, founder of Google and Susan Decker of Yahoo. Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson will be serving as the honorary chairpersons for the Israel 60th Birthday Presidential Conference which has enthusiastically attracted the attention of Jewish leaders and others worldwide.

The entire cost of the Israel Presidential Conference has been raised privately through a historic fundraising initiative chaired by Elliot Broidy, Chairman of Markstone Capital Partners and supported by a committee of two-dozen business people from across the international community.

US President George W. Bush will be a headline guest of the conference, serving as keynote speaker at a celebratory dinner marking 60 years of Israel - American friendship. Eight Israel hotels in Jerusalem have announced that they are at full capacity. Ben Gurion Airport is readying itself for non-stop arrivals as President's Conference guests from around the world stream in to Israel.

At Binyanei HaUma, the Israel President's conference site, employees are working non-stop to transform this Jerusalem, Israel convention center into a world-class venue for the various plenary and panel sessions. A wide array of world leaders, political and cultural personalities are due to arrive in Israel in the coming weeks to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence. Official celebrations will take place throughout the country on May 8. Israel observes its rebirth on a slightly different date each year because of the Hebrew calendar; in the United States, Israel’s anniversary is celebrated on May 14.

He will also visit Masada, an ancient fortress built by King Herod in 31 BCE, the site of the last stand of Jews rebelling against the Roman army in 73 CE. Among the presidents taking part are Victor Yushchenko of Ukraine, Bamir Topi of Albania, Valdis Zatlers of Latvia, Lech Kaczynski of Poland, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Michael Saakashvili of Georgia, Stjepan Mesic of Croatia, Danilo Türk of Slovenia, Tommy Remengesau Jr. and Blaise Campoare of Burkina Faso.

Other notable guests include prime ministers Robert Fico of the Slovak Republic and Ferenc Gyurcsany of Hungary, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Google founder Sergey Brin, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and India's Tata group chairman Ratan Tata. German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Israel in mid-March for an early 60^th celebration. During her three-day trip she visited the Jerusalem Holocaust Museum Yad V’shem, met with Olmert and addressed the Knesset. French President Nicolas Sarkozy is scheduled to visit in late June.

A number of public events also will be held to mark Israel’s rebirth, including three huge birthday parties on Israeli beaches and in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv on May 9. In addition, 10 military bands from 10 countries will play in a concert in Haifa entitled “Saluting with notes, military bands play for peace” on May 8. There will also be light, laser and music displays on May 5 throughout the country.

Israel’s 60^th celebratory events also will take place around the world. Dozens of cities in the U.S. are celebrating with Israeli artist performances. Los Angeles is hosting an Israel Independence Day festival on May 18 which will include a fashion show, carnival rides, an Israeli art exhibit and an official 60th Independence Day ceremony; a variety of local, state and federal government dignitaries are slated to attend.

On June 1, Washington D.C. will host “Israel@60: A Capital Celebration,” an all-day event on the National Mall featuring an Israeli band and a variety of performers including Regina Spektor and Mandy Patinkin. [10]

Also on June 1, there is to be a rally in New York City as well as a multitude of musical performances, art exhibits and other events that will take place during May and June throughout the city (see resources below). Starting Sunday (May 4), banners with images showing Israel’s diverse population will adorn 51 blocks along New York City’s Fifth Avenue as part of a “Faces of Israel” campaign. Among the Israelis to be featured on the banners are a Vietnamese refugee who represents a major Israeli bank in Singapore; African-American basketball player Derrick Sharp, who moved to Israel 15 years ago and plays for the Israeli national basketball team; and Israeli Arab diplomat Rania Jubran.

In the UK, a parade with floats and marching bands has been organized for June 29 in London’s Trafalgar Square to celebrate the anniversary. Events have already been held and will continue to be held in several other countries including Australia, France, South Africa and Italy.

Hundreds of new immigrants from around the world will arrive in Israel together on "Aliyah (Aliya) Day 2008"

The reception for new immigrants will take place at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel on Monday, May 5 2008 at 3:00 pm, at Terminal One.

The Jewish Agency and the Israel Ministry of Immigrant Absorption have declared this coming Monday, May 5, as "Aliyah Day 2008", marking the immigration and absorption of more than 3,000,000 new immigrants over the 60 years since the State of Israel was established.

On this day, approximately 400 new immigrants will be arriving from 23 countries, among them the United States, Brazil, Argentina, England, France, Honduras, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, South Africa and Turkey, and they will settle and be absorbed in over 50 communities throughout Israel.

In addition to the new immigrants, around one hundred parents of "lone soldiers", young people who came to Israel without their parents and are serving in the Israel Defense Forces, will arrive with the "Keshet" project in order to spend Independence Day with their sons and daughters.

The ceremony marking "Aliyah Day" will be attended by the Israel Minister of Immigrant Absorption Mr. Jacob Edery, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Mr. Zeev Bielski, Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, Chairman of Keren Hayesod Mr. Avi Pazner, a representative of the United Jewish Communities, a representative of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, hundreds of new immigrants and their families, and additional dignitaries.

"On this day, we are receiving a poignant gift for the 60th birthday anniversary of the State of Israel", said Israel Minister of Immigrant Absorption Jacob Edery. "The State of Israel is the national homeland of Jews around the world and we in the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption are ready and prepared with special absorption tracks to ensure their quick and good absorption and integration."

This is a day of celebration for the State of Israel and the Jewish People", said Jewish Agency Chairman Zeev Bielski. "The new immigrants that have arrived in Israel with the assistance of the Jewish Agency over the 60 years of the state's existence are the people that built this country, and it is thanks to them that we are celebrating our 60th anniversary. The Jewish Agency will continue to strive to increase aliyah to Israel from around the world."

From 1948 until today, the total number of immigrants who have been absorbed in Israel is more than 3 million, including 1.2 million from the Former Soviet Union, more than 130,000 from North America, more than 80,000 from Ethiopia, around 70,000 from Argentina, around 35,000 from England and around 85,000 from France. Tens of thousands of additional immigrants have arrived to Israel from other countries and the immigration continues.

Another respected organization responsible for creating Aliyah to Israel is Nefesh B'Nefesh. Nefesh B'Nefesh provides comprehensive support for olim by directly interfacing with them, both in the pre-and post-Aliyah stages. NBN offers financial assistance, employment resources, social services and guidance through governmental absorption procedures in order to help make each individual's Aliyah as successful as possible.

In 2006, NBN extended its Aliyah expertise and success experience in initial efforts to assist in boosting aliyah from the United Kingdom.

Israel 60th Birthday Events - Klinghoffer Memorial Service

The daughters of Leon Klinghoffer will arrive in Israel for a special memorial service on Wednesday at 9 a.m. for all Jews who were murdered abroad.

The event is being coordinated by JAFI.

Palestinian terrorists hijacked the cruise ship - Achille Lauro - in October 1985.

During the hijacking, Leon Klinghoffer - a 69-year-old wheelchair-bound American Jew who was with his wife of 36 years on the cruise - was murdered and dumped into the sea.

Klinghoffer's daughters established the Leon and Marilyn Klinghoffer Memorial Foundation with the Anti-Defamation League. The foundation combats terrorism through educational, political and legal means.

Official Celebration of Israel’s 60th Anniversary to be Held May 7th
with Major Musical Gala at Radio City in New York

New York City will celebrate the State of Israel's 60th Anniversary on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day on Wednesday, May 7th at Radio City Music Hall at 8 PM. The musical gala will feature Yael Naim, ("New Soul," featured in Apple’s MacBook commercial), reggae superstar Matisyahu, Paul Shaffer of the David Letterman Show, MacArthur “genius” composer/performer John Zorn and four of Israel's top artists - Idan Raichel, Rami Kleinstein, David Broza and Habanot Nechama.

The evening will also feature remarks from Governor David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg along, Israeli Ambassador Dan Gillerman and Consul General Asaf Sharif.

The historic cultural gathering will be the largest such celebration of its kind, and is supported by over 100 Jewish organizations including the UJA Federation of New York, Consulate General of Israel, Jewish Community Relations Council, Dor Chadash and other key groups representing a majority of the organized American Jewish community.

“An unprecedented number of Jewish organizations have come together for this celebration,” says David Borowich, founder and honorary chairman of Dor Chadash, which is hosting the concert.

“The show will be quite an undertaking,” says producer Michael Dorf of Downtown Arts Development. “Attendees will be participating in a historical moment.”

All net proceeds of the event will benefit three leading Israeli organizations helping children in need Ahava orphanage in the North, Gvanim in Sderot, and Beit Issie Shapiro in the center of Israel. "The world is full of people who hate Israel for no reason other than it simply exists," says Aharon Grundman, Friends of Israel Vice President of International Marketing. "It makes no difference what Israel does, how many people this small democracy helps or how it struggles to defend itself. Israel will always remain wrong by default and by ignorance for many."

To counter that, Friends of Israel has created an Israel 60 Anniversary Birthday Website (IsraelBirthday.com) where every citizen of the world can illustrate their love, faith and respect for Israel and what it stands for as Israel celebrates her 60th birthday anniversary celebration.

The State of Israel Celebrates 60 Years of Independence

The Ministerial Committee marking 60 years of independence, headed by Minister Ruhama Avraham Balila, has approved the first list of events and projects that will be held and implemented in the 60th year of Israel's independence. Events celebrating Israel at 60 will be held in 2008 and 2009 (Shvat 5768 to Tevet 5769). The 60th Anniversary Administration, headed by Minister Ruhama Avraham Balila, is currently in the process of concluding the programs that will involve collaboration with various Government Ministries and national institutions. The list of projects and events presented below is partial, and will be updated during the year. The professional administration for the events marking 60 years of Israel's independence is initiating, producing and sponsoring events and activities that comply with the following principles:

	The events and projects shall reflect the Government resolution that Israel's 60th anniversary will center around the "strengthening of Israel's children".

	The Israel at 60 events shall be designed to reach all the citizens of Israel wherever they may be, and a major proportion of the events shall be held in outlying regions. The events shall showcase Israel's achievements over the 60 years since its founding.

	The mix of events shall put special emphasis on Holocaust survivors and other sectors of the population.

	Part of the budget for the Israel at 60 events shall be earmarked for infrastructure projects, that will bear fruit in the coming years.

	The events and projects to mark 60 years of Israel's independence shall focus on inculcating educational, cultural and artistic values among the youth. Emphasis shall also be placed on strengthening religious tolerance and civic awareness, strengthening the connection with the history of the State of Israel and the Jewish People, and strengthening awareness of nature, heritage, landscape and environmental values.
